After an interesting and varied career, starting as an engineer in private industry, then high school mathematics educator and ending in professional counseling, Elizabeth finally found the freedom during retirement to paint full time.
An immigrant from Vienna, Austria, who spent all of her working years in New York City, she fell in love with the beauty of our country and spent her weekends and vacations capturing the sheer beauty of her surroundings along the East Coast on canvas and paper. An intensely visual person, Elizabeth worked by instinct and later took lessons with Joseph Hintersteiner, who himself had studied with the legendary Edgar Whitney. Since her move to California, Elizabeth has taken numerous workshops with outstanding painters, and spent much time painting "en plein aire" to get a better feeling of the special light and colors of this fabulous corner of the world. She visited gardens, beaches, open spaces and landmarks, and painted her personal interpretations of Southern California. Today, Elizabeth is known for her watercolors of landscapes, flowers and floral compositions, as well as for her choice of clear and strikingly rich colors that never appear gaudy. Now living in Thousand Oaks, CA, her work can frequently be seen in various locations of this area, including the Buenaventura and Harbor Village Art Galleries in Ventura, Ventura art Walks, and occasionally at the Thousands Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. She often exhibits in fine art events and competitions. For the past several years she has been, by invitation, the Featured Artist of the annual Matilija Poppy Festival of the Thousand Oaks Botanic Gardens. Elizabeth is an active participant in local art associations, including the Westlake Village Art Guild, California Gold Coast Watercolor Society, and Buena Ventura Art Association. She has earned numerous awards. Her work can be found in private collections throughout California and other states. Elizabeth accepts commissions, and invites art lovers who want to see more of her work to call her for an appointment to visit her studio.
